The OT Behind the Books
I'm A. E. Nicholls — a paediatric occupational therapist, author, and advocate for children's mental health and development.
After years of clinical practice working with children, teenagers, and their families, one thing became clear to me: the gap between what the research says works and what parents actually have access to is enormous. Most families I worked with were doing their best with outdated advice, conflicting information, or tools that simply weren't designed for their real lives.
So I started writing.
Every book I publish through Akeso Publishing is grounded in evidence-based practice from occupational therapy, developmental psychology, and child mental health research. But more importantly, every book is written in plain language — because information that sits on a shelf isn't helping anyone.
I write for parents who are tired of being told what they're doing wrong. I write for teens navigating a world that feels overwhelming. And I write for kids who need practical tools, not lectures.
In my clinical practice, I work with children and families through OT GO, my paediatric occupational therapy practice based in Australia.
My titles include The Screen-Smart Parent for families navigating screen time, the Executive Functioning Workbook series for children and teens, and workbooks covering anxiety, self-regulation, social skills, and life skills.
